Granny Squares and Grass Slides!

We've had a fun week with our two grandsons.  The weather was lovely so we were able to spend time at the beach, playground and grass slide, take them to a theme park and movies, and give them plenty of sticky tape and glue to make things from the recycle box of goodies.  At the end of the week, when I asked them what they liked best out of the week, they both said the grass slide. They own hundreds of dollars worth of the latest toys, gadgets, Beyblades, Pokemon, Nintendo etc., but they were happiest at the beach, sliding down the steep grassy slope on a piece of cardboard!!!

Now that's where the Granny Squares come in. I used the opportunity while they were building sand castles and water dams, and sliding down grass slopes, to sit and enjoy the fresh air with, of course, some handwork on my lap. I have been asked to teach crochet at the Creative Craft Retreat later in the year, so I needed to work out a project for the class.  Granny Squares are great for learning basic crochet techniques and there are so many ways they can be sewn together to make fun bags.

I used three colours in this one:

I love pink and purple together:

Here's a four-colour one:

A soft pastel square:

The blue, black and white are quite striking, aren't they:

Which one do you like best?????

Keep an eye out next week for the next instalment in the free BOM Consider the Lilies pattern.  My DH and I are having a little holiday for a couple of weeks, but I hope to be able to upload the pattern as usual.

Have a great week.

Happy stitching!
Val

Oh, we grass slide on one of slopes and my grandson (4yrs) just had his first slide and loved it. I enjoy all your grannies - but partial to the blue/white/black. Enjoy your holiday.

They are all lovely Val but I am partial to the pink, green & black one. Your crochet is so lovely & even. The boys look like they are having a ball. Happy holidays.

I love the pastel one, Val, or the blue and black one - can't decide!

I saw a gorgeous one recently somewhere done with red, aqua and white.

Isn't it funny how kids still enjoy the things we did ourselves when we were younger :o)!!!
Love the granny squares, the pink and purple are my favourite, but I know my DD2 would love your aqua ones :o).
Hugs,
Joy ;o)

How great, your grandsons. Happy with something simple. No computers or other expensive things. Be thankful for them. By the way, how old are they?
About your crochet, I like them all but the last one is my favorite. But that is because you used one of my favorite blue one: aqua.

greetings and cannot hardly wait till the next BOM pattern will be there. HOpe it will there before we go camping.......

I love the blue, black &white crochet Val. That is so a craft I want to learn more about. In the cold weather we are having today I got out my granny square blanket that my Aunty made for me about 20 years ago. Snug as a bug in a rug! Tracee xx

I like them all but the pastel granny square really catches my eye! It's beautiful in the soft colors. Kids seem to be the same everywhere, with lots of toys, they love playing with the box the most! They are quite handsome young men and look like they are having a ball! Enjoy your holiday!

What a fun time you had with your grandies! It's nice that you can do that. We just spent eight days doing the same with our four, though they are just wee boys, and one grown-up girl. So, ours was mostly more like babysitting, but fun nonetheless! Have fun with your granny squares projects. I don't enjoy crochet, so I don't feel qualified to provide input.

What fun you had with your grandsons!! I was tickled to hear what their favorite thing to do was! Brought back a few memories. Have a nice holiday and come back soon, all refreshed and ready to sew. I love your granny squares. I wish I lived closer so you could teach me, too!! ~karen
