Falls and Feathers

No, I didn't fall over!  We have been away on a little break staying in a delightful cabin at Queen Mary Falls in Killarney in South East Queensland.

We spent four days with eight other members of our local Birdwatchers Club, exploring the area and seeing what birds we could find. All the waterfalls had LOTS of water and were just so pretty.  We didn't have far to go to find some gorgeous birds.  These were outside our front door:

King Parrot

Crimson Rosella

The scenery was superb:

We celebrated our 46th wedding anniversary while we were away - 46 years spent with the love of my life.  I have been so blessed.

High on the priority list when we arrived home was to tackle the garden.  We've had so much rain and the grass is really green and looks lovely when its mown - hubby's job. I spent Saturday afternoon tidying up some of the garden beds and once again tangled with the 'wild' life - not wasps this time,  but ants - I'm not sure what type they are but they have an intensely painful sting. I ended up with 13 attacks! The worst part is the after-effects.  I always seem to have a reaction to insect bites, so I now have huge, insanely itchy lumps on swollen legs! It all reinforces what a good move it was, when I retired seven years ago, to put stitching higher on the list of leisure activities than gardening!

There hasn't been much time for stitching indulgence since we arrived back home.  Washing, ironing, shopping and having visitors have filled the last couple of days, but a couple of nights in front of the Telly have given me time to work on this:

I think I'm really liking this new design.

Happy stitching!
Val

Sorry to hear about your tangle with the ants, I hope you recover quickly and feel better soon! Your trip looks fun and thanks for the pictures of the birds. They are so beautiful and nothing like I see in the USA. Your new stitching project is very cute, I can't wait to see more! Have fun and stay away from the stinging, biting insects!

Oh Val, so sorry to hear about your bites! THey must be driving you mad. I hope you have antihistimines on hand all the time. I know bull ants have a nasty sting that causes horrendous pain that keeps coming back every few minutes. LOve the pics, it looks so serene. I also love the little cottage applique/stitchery. Looking forward to seeing that completed. Angel hugs

Your pictures of the birds are great. They look so amazing as to almost seem artificial! Glad for you to have the get-away to an obviously beautiful place. How awful about your gardening experience though! Yes, indeed, you need to stitch more. What you're creating is adorable.

Me again, was just looking for a way to contact you privately but this message doesn't really matter if someone else reads it. Just wanted to say I purchased the fan fare table runner pattern from under the mulberry bush yesterday and received it today. Was very excited as it is a gift for a friend. The other thing I was happy to see was the design was by YOU!! The reason I purchased it initially was two-fold, firstly I loved the design from the very small picture on the website (hence I didn't read it properly and notice it was by yourself), then I saw that all profit will be donated. So thank you for being so generous. I hope my friend loves it. (I might have to get one for myself!).
