When you can't put things off any longer!

I've been using a very old Windows Live Email program for a very long time. It was released in 2007 and support for the software ceased in 2017. But it still works! And I really like it! I know the program like the back of my hand, have configured settings on it many times, easily, and have used it night and day to send and receive emails for 17 or 18 years!

I knew that one day I would have to upgrade and that some day it was just not going to work any more. That day came last Saturday! Windows 11 had done a very large update the previous night and when I opened my computer to look at my familiar email program the next morning, instead of hearing the welcoming sound of incoming emails, all I had were messages that nothing could be opened! The update had killed it!

I did all the usual things like going back to a previous update, reloading the program etc etc, but it was all totally unsuccessful! The day I had dreaded had finally arrived and I could not put things off any longer. I would have to upgrade to a more modern email program.

That was the beginning of two or three days of trauma and little sleep! I tried a highly recommended program that couldn't do even the basic things that I wanted! Then I went to another program. It had good features but it couldn't import my backed-up contacts and emails in a format that was usable.

In the end, I decided to persevere with it and see if I could find a way around the problems. I was going along swimmingly until I struck another huge issue. Thankfully my IT expert son came to my rescue and helped fix an account that wouldn't work. I ended up purchasing some nifty software to convert my thousands of emails into a workable format, necessary for my work as Secretary of our church. So the deed is done!

Have I learned my lesson? I hope so. It seems to be part of human nature to procrastinate. It would have been so much easier if I had updated my email program during the summer break when things are in recess. It could have been done in a leisurely manner, with everything functioning normally, without all the fluster and trauma. Instead I waited till the program died! A friend was telling me about her husband last week. He has put off going to the doctor for years about his problems. Turns out he has major heart issues. It really doesn't pay to put things off!

I should have listened to the Bible The Passion Translation of Proverbs 24:34, says: "If you put off until tomorrow the work you could do today, tomorrow never seems to come."

I hope you enjoy seeing all my latest donation creations scattered throughout my story!

Many Blessings
Val
