The Glue Pen workout

If you've been reading my blog posts for any length of time, you will know that I love applique. Many of my designs feature it, and mostly I have used the fusible web/blanket stitch method. You can see a post I wrote about that here.

However, I really do love the look of needleturn applique and after some initial very poor attempts, I discovered the glue pen/Appliquick method a couple of years ago.

I needed a "sitting down and taking it easy" thing to do last week, so out came the applique paper, my Appliquick tools and the glue pen.

I fused, cut, glued and turned over edges ...

... and refilled the glue pen .... and again ... and again, till I had a heap of prepared shapes.

I didn't feel like doing much else last week so sat and relaxed and watched a movie, or the tennis, or cricket which gave me plenty of opportunity to attach the shapes to the background.

and so my row quilt is growing.

I made a row of Dresdens a few weeks ago and it's all quilted ready to join up to the other rows:

While plums were cheap, I did some preserving:

... and thankfully I was able to buy some more Glue Pens!

Happy stitching!
Val

The edges look so perfect doing it this way! I love applique as well. I actually belong to two applique groups. I do the old fashioned needle turn, but this is a great technique as well! You do beautiful work!

Oh so pretty, love the pieces you are appliqueing. I also like applique but usually do machine applique because it is faster. I'll have to try this.

Amazon here had a special with 4 packages of 5 refills for an incredibly inexpensive price. I bought some and sometimes wish I'd bought two packages! Those are lovely designs, I'm looking forward to seeing the whole piece.

This is an awesome project. Thank you so much for sharing. Is there a schedule for the release date for the other blocks? I want to start but not sure if I should buy all the fabric at once. Please help me

Marietjie, the blocks for my Hand-picked Wardrobe free BOM quilt, will usually be uploaded on the Sunday of the third week of each month. It would certainly be best to buy all the fabric at the beginning of the project. Hope you enjoy making it. (I presume that is the project you are talking about and not the one pictured in this blog post.) Hugs, Val

Your applique is beautiful. I need to use this method more often. I usually needle turn without preparing the shapes first, so it isn't as neat.

Oh, your applique is so pretty. I love it too although at this time I don't have an applique project in the works. I quilt and other stuff and recently I've started sewing on my old treadle and I'm having fun with that. Not that I don't love my new modern machines as well and I love sewing on them too! I'm so glad I found your blog! I'll be reading.
